International and Smart NDHU

 I. International Dong-Hwa

Currently, Dong-Hwa has set up several full English-taught programs to attract the international students from all over the world.  However, the complementary measures for international students seem not enough at this moment.  For instance, once we open the Campus Activities Reservation System (跨域自主學習活動暨報名系統), we can easily find that most of the activities are processed in Mandarin, in this case, the Cross-Domain Learning Requirement(跨域自主學習畢業門檻) is much harder to reach for international students.

Besides, even Dong-Hwa has open the admission for international students for many years, there are still some crucial online systems and websites still provide Mandarin version only, such as the “Initial Review of Graduation Qualifications System” (學士班學程選課輔助及畢業初審系統) and the “Classroom Borrowing System”  (教室借用系統) .  This is really inconvenient for the international students.

International students are all our best friends, and as an international village, I believe that Dong-Hwa can do more for our international students!!

  1. Demand our school to hold more lectures and activities in English.
  2. To improve the crucial websites and online systems by providing English version.
  3. Demand our school to assist all the restaurants and shops in our campus to translate their menu in English.

 II. Smart Dong-Hwa

Recently, Dong-Hwa has launched several new hi-tech equipment, including the Campus Vehicle Management System (校園門禁系統), the Mobile Student ID Card (行動校園卡), the Smart Energy Management System for Ying-Xi Dormitory (迎曦莊智慧電力系統), the Smart Light Pole Control System (新宿區智慧路燈) and so on .  Based on this, we can know that Dong-Hwa is connecting more and more equipment to the network in order to meet the new era of technology.  However, our school seems to really “connect all the devices to the internet” only, without thinking “why we need to do this?”, and even put the students in their shoes to think about “what benefits can we gain by this?”, “is this just an inconvenience for users?”, rather than just thinking “would we make the headlines?”.

Besides, the Mobile Student ID Card service has been launched for about one year, however, the contents described in the campaign video and news articles, such as “pay the washing machine and dryer fee by Easy-Card”, are still nowhere to be found.  And for the described “access to the dormitories by smartphone (Mobile Student ID Card)”, the dorm manager usually refused us by using the excuses as “physical student ID card is better” or “don’t know how to deal with the setting process” or “please find another dorm manager” when we go to request the changing of access control card.  According to these, we can easily see that our school seems to be lack of the employee training in new systems.

The core purpose and concept of the technology is to “make our life more convenient” rather than just “a gimmick to hit the headlines”, right?

  1. Demand our school to carry out a satisfaction survey for significant policies, such as the Smart Energy Management System for Ying-Xi Dormitory (迎曦莊智慧電力系統), to all users, and furthermore, conduct the cost-and-benefit analysis and discuss about their disposals.
  2. Demand our school to publish the detailed launch schedule and complete the employee training for new systems at the same time as the propaganda for new system begins.
  3. Ask for the mobile-friendly version or an app for the e-Learning website, or even convert it into a RWD version (responsive web design).
